ANNANDALE TERRACE

STRIDE FOR FITNESS

---------------------------------

WHAT'S THE AEROBIC EXERCISE THAT EVERY CHILD IN OUR SCHOOL CAN DO WITHOUT FEAR OF FAILURE AND EVERY TEACHER CAN MODEL TO SUPPORT AN ACTIVE LIVING CONCEPT?

WALKING

It's the one lifelong aerobic activity that allows 100% participation, 100% success, and 100% winners. Also the safest aerobic exercise, walking uses major muscle groups to burn fat and strengthen the cardiovascular system; it also permits everyone to participate without feeling self-conscious or intimidated.

Walking can be a good fitness activity, but it must be done briskly(quick arm and leg movement) to be effective for cardiovascular fitness.

OBJECTIVE: To walk as a class, atleast twice a week.

To begin walking by October 1st.

To complete the designated amount of laps or miles per week or month.

To improve our students physical fitness scores, specifically their

cardiovascular endurance.

GOAL: 3rd-5th: (round class numbers up to 20 or 25, regardless of actual number

of students) [Example: 18 students = 20; 23 students = 25.]

> 100 laps each week = 4 laps each student per week.(4 week period)

**Example: If you have 22 students, you would count your laps as if you had 25 students each time your class walked.(25 x 4 laps = 100 laps).

OR > 320 laps per month = 16 laps each student.

= total in class = 20

> 400 laps per month = 16 laps each student.

= total in class = 25

HS - 2nd: (round class up to 20 or 25, regardless of actual number of

students) [Example: 15 students = 20; 23 students = 25.]

> 60 laps each week = 3 laps each student per week.(4 week period)

**Example: If you have 17 students, you would count your laps as if you had 20

students each time your class walked.

> 240 laps per month = 12 laps each student.

= total in class = 20

> 300 laps per month = 12 laps each student.

= total in class = 25
